The Loss of Wonder is a cinematic experience, research expedition and philosophical discussion all at once. On various levels, it aims to spark a new examination of the age-old debate about the body/mind duality. Are we not far more   than information processing supercomputers? There is a growing realisation that this "far more" is the body with which we exist in the world – and that it may even be the origin of our consciousness.

US philosopher Alva Noë, pioneer in the field of active and embodied perception,   and bio-robotics specialist Hemma Philamore, who researches in Great Britain and Japan, have been studying the human body and the biological foundations of life for   years.Their personality and passion will enable a network of interesting encounters and visual impressions, allowing for a deep, emotional engagement with our body. The dramaturgical arc will span from the body's ability and knowledge, its consciousness-creating perception to real and virtual bodily extension, to the body as a medium of communication.

Findings on the significance of our body show that the discussions about artificial intelligence and big data are misleading. It is not about whether robots will   disempower us and algorithms control us  – it is about what we are and what we want to be. And ultimately, about what life actually is.

The protagonists of the film are people "of flesh and blood", with their personal stories, peculiarities and individual bodies. There will be artists from Germany, Scotland and Japan, as well as the quantum physicists at the edge of the scientific spectrum. I have experienced them as fascinating personalities, who are willing to   open up for this film; willing to share more than "just"their professional expertise.

Although the film will be shot in the USA, Europe and Japan, the montage will not follow a geographical, but rather a thematic progression. The protagonists will guide the way by picking up and building on each other's thoughts. The film will work without explanatory commentary and become a visually sensual experience for the audience.

The Loss of Wonder plays with the indescribable, the mysterious, with the complex-dynamic, with what we do not yet know - with what life might be all about. Therefore, the film will not have a straightforward linear narrative, nor will it claim to solve the issues raised. Instead, it will hint at interconnections and  create  metaphors. To me, images as a source of experience are just as important as words as a medium of knowledge. The Loss of Wonder is intended to be an intelligent and emotional experience that also does justice to my love of the corporeal.
