Full Speed Westward

In October 2011 Georgia´s richest man, billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvilli announced to enter into politics "for two years". His goal was to become the Prime Minister an to hinder Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili to stay in power.

This film shows how the oligarch achieved his goal and how Saakashvili fights to keep Georgia on "full speed" in terms of reforms and steps towards becoming a member of the EU and NATO.

Filmmaker Stefan Tolz, who lives in Georgia and knows the country for more than 20 years, tells the story as a road movie, from the driving seat of his 40-year old Russian Volga 21 - a symbol of nostalgia for a time when the pace of life and its values were quite different.

The film is an intimate portrait of Georgia - and at the same time a metaphor for any country, where the dream of becoming part of the Western World has triggered different forces of society to fight for the ´right way´for the future.
