We are very happy about the invitation!
Here from the press release of the Dok.Leipzig Filmfest yesterday:
“"We all think we understand what light is. But if we take a closer look, we realize that we don't,” says ‘Tracing Light’. DOK Leipzig opens with the world premiere of the new film by Thomas Riedelsheimer (“Rivers and Tides”) on October 28 in Leipzig's CineStar. The renowned German filmmaker already showed his film “Touch the Sound” at the opening of the Leipzig festival in 2004.
In “Tracing Light”, co-produced by ZDF/3sat, Riedelsheimer now explores the phenomenon of light and brings together two disciplines that deal with it in different ways and enter into a dialog - art and physics.
From the Outer Hebrides in Scotland and the Advanced Research Center at the University of Glasgow to the Max Planck Institute in Erlangen, the film follows leading scientists and internationally renowned artists such as Ruth Jarman, Joe Gerhardt, Julie Brook, Johannes Brunner and Raimund Ritz. Between super slow motion, laser table soccer, “Firestacks” and quantum theory, they explore the questions: What is light as a material? How do photons behave? How do we perceive the world around us - and in what way?
“Thomas Riedelsheimer's documentaries are a delightful celebration of light and sound,” says festival director Christoph Terhechte. “They sharpen our senses. We are proud to be able to open our festival 20 years after 'Touch the Sound' with 'Tracing Light'.”
Thomas Riedelsheimer has already received several awards for his work as a director and cinematographer, including the German Film Award and the Adolf Grimme Prize. In 2008, he founded the production company Filmpunkt Gmbh together with Stefan Tolz, after working for several years as one of the partners of the production platform Filmquadrat. He is a member of the German and European Film Academies and has been a permanent lecturer at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy since October 2006. Since 2018, Riedelsheimer has headed the material development program for debut documentaries “dok.art”, which he developed himself. He will present the program at a public DOK Talk.
Thomas Riedelsheimer will also give a master class as part of the Ex Oriente workshop.”
