Cahier Africain, Heidi Specogna’s latest documentary feature, was awarded twice at Leipzig Documentary Festival. The film won the Silver Dove in the International Competition which honors the best film on the topic of democracy and human rights. The film was lauded by the jury for its strong impressive imagery contrasting cruelty and beauty in the daily lives of African women.
Additionally, Cahier Africain was awarded the Prize of the newly founded Interreligious Jury which described the film as a symbol of hope in a country shaped by civil war. According to the jury, Specogna’s sensitive dealing with her protagonists created a poetic film which functions as call for reconciliation.
